Nov. 14 was a tough day for wanted people to stay under the radar. On two separate occasions traffic stops in West Reading led to arrests of people who weren’t even driving:
• At about 3:27 a.m., West Reading police stopped a car at the West Shore Bypass and the Penn Street Bridge due to dead registration tags. The driver wasn’t in trouble – apparently the dead tags were due to a change in ownership – but the passenger had an active warrant from the Berks County sheriff’s office, the police officer discovered. The passenger was then arrested.
• A West Reading police officer stopped a vehicle about 10:09 p.m. Nov. 14 in the 400 block of Chestnut Street after he ran the registration and discovered the car had no insurance. The driver received a citation, but the officer then learned the passenger had three warrants out for traffic violations. The passenger was arrested, the uninsured vehicle was towed and the driver presumably had to find another way home.
