A man spotted a money clip holding cash and two credit cards in an unlocked truck about 1:46 p.m. Feb. 1 in the 800 block of Hill Avenue in Wyomissing, so he took it. A witness saw the man grab the clip and walk away. The victim called to cancel the cards and found one of them was in use at a nearby business. The witness and the rightful owner of the credit cards found and confronted the thief at the business. Store security held him there until borough police arrived.
According to police, the suspect, a 27-year-old man, is an ex-con living in a halfway house in Wernersville. Court records show multiple guilty pleas for identity theft, theft from a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property. This time he was charged with theft from a motor vehicle, unauthorized use of a credit card, two counts each of forgery and theft by deception and receiving stolen property. He was jailed in lieu of $20,000 bail.
