Woman charged with forging prescriptions throughout Berks County

Wyomissing police charged a 27-year-old Sinking Spring woman with multiple counts of forgery, identity theft and other charges after a three-month investigation by the department and Spring Township police. The woman had been altering prescriptions to illegally get tramadol, a pain reliever, MS Contin, a brand-name morphine, Vicodin and Soma. A Muhlenberg police officer told the investigators that the suspect had been arrested in 2003 for shoplifting, and had a prescription pad on her at the time.

The woman forged doctor’s signatures, changed prescription amounts and had them issued in different names. She tried to get the drugs from pharmacies in Spring Township, Wyomissing and South Heidelberg Township. Police tracked down the suspect through descriptions from pharmacy employees and video surveillance at some of the stores.

She was arrested and charged with 38 counts of forgery, 24 counts of theft by deception, 13 counts of identity theft, eight counts of receiving stolen property, 51 counts of violating the Pharmacy Act and three counts each of possession of a controlled substance and acquiring a controlled substance.

She remains free on $25,000 bail.
