Snow emergency leads to multiple towings in West Reading

A snowstorm that hit the region the Friday before the Super Bowl led the borough of West Reading to declare a snow emergency, meaning people couldn’t park on certain streets; if they were, they had to move their vehicles or the borough would do it for them. Between 7 and 8:35 p.m. Feb. 5 at least five vehicles were towed from streets designated as emergency routes:

  • First block of South Seventh Avenue;
  • 300 block of South Third Avenue;
  • 600 block of Reading Avenue; and
  • 700 block of Reading Avenue.

When another storm arrived the night of Feb. 9, more cars were towed from the following streets:

  • First block of South Seventh Avenue;
  • 700 block of Reading Avenue;
  • 500 block of Penn Avenue;
  • 600 block of Penn Avenue;
  • 300 block of South Seventh Avenue;
  • 500 block of Parkview Road; and
  • 700 block of Penn Avenue.

In the course of checking streets Feb. 9, borough police did find a car parked in the first block of North Fourth Avenue that had been reported stolen in Reading. City police came to take the recovered vehicle.
