Breakup leads to breaking up in hotel

A man who was apparently drunk and upset over a breakup with his girlfriend, started smashing items in a Wyomissing hotel about 3:16 a.m. Jan. 1 at a hotel in the 1700 block of Papermill Road. Court records indicate after the woman told him she was breaking up with him, he punched a mirror on his way out of their hotel room.

On his way to another room in the hotel the now-ex-boyfriend broke more mirrors and pictures, flipped tables and left blood splatters in his wake. He had cut his hand on the first mirror, court records say. After police confronted the man he said he had been drinking at the hotel's New Year's eve celebration.

Police took him to Reading Hospital to treat his hand injuries, then arrested him. The suspect, a 22-year-old from Carmichaels in Western Pennsylvania, was charged with disorderly conduct, criminal mischief and public drunkenness.
