Man beaten with baseball bat refuses treatment

A melee broke out in the evening of Aug. 22 at a birthday party held at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in the 300 block of South Seventh Avenue in West Reading. Borough police received a report of a man being assaulted by about a dozen people with a baseball bat. Officers recovered the baseball bat but none of the people at the party – about 150 people or so, according to police -- reported seeing the beating. The victim refused medical treatment and also would not name his attacker.
