Cab driver charged in New Year's Day hit-and-run in Wyomissing

A taxi caused a three-vehicle crash about 4:50 p.m. Jan. 1 at the intersection of State Hill Road and an on-ramp to the Warren Street Bypass in Wyomissing. The taxi drove away, but police tracked down the driver. On Jan. 17, Wyomissing police charged the suspected driver, a 42-year-old Pottsville man, with causing an accident, following too closely, failing to stop and give aid, and failing to notify police of an accident. An arraignment is scheduled in February.

Driver charged in hit-and-run in West Reading

A vehicle struck a pedestrian about 7:36 p.m. Jan. 13 at Reading and North Fourth avenues in West Reading. Rather than stop and help the victim, the driver took off. Police later found him in Reading. The person struck was taken to Reading Hospital. Borough police charged the suspect, an 18-year-old man, with causing an accident involving injury, careless driving and failing to stop and give aid. He remains free pending a preliminary hearing scheduled next month.

Driver causes accident, then takes off

A vehicle rear-ended another car about 1:09 p.m. June 6 in the 1100 block of Penn Avenue in Wyomissing. The driver of the struck car suggested they both meet a few blocks away to exchange information. Instead, the offending vehicle drove off. The victim's vehicle had minor damage, if that's any consolation.

Oley Township man charged in hit and run

A driver struck an occupied vehicle about 5:55 p.m. Feb. 4 in the 1800 block of Papermill Road in Wyomissing. A witness followed the offending vehicle and reported the registration to borough police, who found the car abandoned. It was towed and the suspected driver called to report it stolen. Instead police charged the suspect, a 20-year-old Oley Township man, with causing an accident, careless driving and failure to report an accident to police.

Driver flees from two-vehicle accident

A woman in her 30s driving a Mercedes rear-ended another vehicle about 8:24 p.m. Oct. 9 at the intersection of Woodland and Ridgewood roads in Wyomissing. She told the victim she’d follow her to a parking lot to exchange information, then drove away.

Woman’s vehicle struck in hit-and-run accident in Wyomissing

A woman was driving about 9:06 p.m. Aug. 28 when she tried to turn left from Park Road South onto Parkside Drive North in Wyomissing. Another vehicle, which she later was unable to describe to police, was heading west on Parkside Drive North as it drove through the intersection without stopping for the stop sign (or the woman’s vehicle). It struck the other vehicle, then a street sign, and kept going west without stopping.

Hit and run accident reported in Wyomissing

A woman had stopped her car at a red light about 7 p.m. July 19 at the intersection of Berkshire Boulevard and Papermill Road in Wyomissing. When the light turned green, the vehicle behind her sped up and rear-ended the victim’s vehicle. It stopped briefly then sped away, but the victim was able to get a good description of the vehicle.

Drivers report three hit-and-runs in single evening in West Reading

Shortly after 7 p.m, June 17 a man flagged down a police officer in the 300 block of Franklin Street in West Reading. His car, which he parked there a little more than an hour earlier, had dents and scratches on the driver’s side front fender and the front bumper. The offending car was nowhere to be found.

Less than a half-hour later, witnesses told police they saw a car traveling east in the 600 block of Penn Avenue when it turned around in the middle of the block striking another car.

About 11 o’clock that night, officers received a report of a hit and run at the intersection of Cherry Street and South Sixth Avenue. It wasn’t clear what the car had hit, but witnesses described the hit-and-run vehicle as an older, tan sedan with damage to the front end. It was last seen driving east on Cherry Street, but police couldn’t find the car.

Driver doesn’t stop for accident on West Shore Bypass

In the afternoon of June 11 a driver on the West Shore Bypass in West Reading struck another car while trying to change lanes. The car that was struck sped away without stopping.
