A woman and her son heard a loud noise about 4 a.m. Dec. 4 while in their home in the 400 block of Pine Street in West Reading. They discovered cracks in the window of the back door, but no other evidence of a break-in. Police found a fingerprint and traced it to a 19-year-old borough resident, who told officers he had no recollection of visiting the home.
He was charged Dec. 22 with criminal mischief, prowling at night, attempted burglary and attempted trespassing and released on 5 percent of $10,000 bail.
