Suspicious package contains stolen merchandise

Someone found a package about 1:30 p.m. Oct. 23 that was hidden behind a sign in the 700 block of Reading Avenue in West Reading. The package had stolen merchandise in it and belonged to a man whom police eventually found. They arrested the suspect, a 47-year-old Snydertown, Pa., man, and charged him with retail theft, theft by deception and receiving stolen property. He was jailed in lieu of $10,000 bail.
