Man faces gun charge following traffic stop

A West Reading police officer stopped a car that had been going 44 mph in a 25 mph zone at 10:53 p.m. Aug. 24 in the 200 block of Penn Avenue in the borough. The officer discovered that the driver was wanted for theft and the passenger was also wanted for failure to appear in court on theft charges. A stolen gun was also in the car. The driver, a 28-year-old Reading man, faces charges of receiving stolen property, possessing a firearm without a license, speeding and driving with a suspended license. He was jailed in lieu of $50,000 bail.
